ABOUT

The redevelopment of Hahne & Co. is a transformative $174 million mixed-use development and public-private partnership that revitalized one of Newark, New Jersey’s most iconic historic landmarks. The project thoughtfully combines historic preservation with modern residential, retail, commercial, and community spaces, creating a dynamic destination where people can live, work, shop, and connect.

The development features 180 residential units, 75,000 square feet of retail space, and 100,000 square feet of commercial, office, and community space. Anchored by Newark’s first Whole Foods Market, Hahne & Co. also

includes Barnes & Noble and Express Newark, the arts and cultural center affiliated with Rutgers University–Newark. More than a redevelopment project, Hahne & Co. demonstrates how adaptive reuse and sustainable real estate development can preserve architectural heritage while creating new opportunities for economic growth, education, culture, and community engagement.

The project reflects Hanini Group’s approach to urban development—bringing together investment, design, construction, and community-focused planning to transform historic properties into vibrant, resilient destinations with lasting social and economic value.
